England Youth Championships success
The England Youth Championships took place over the first weekend of July. A number of our fencers competed across the weekend, with Salle Paul representatives in all three weapons. The club gained two new England Youth Champions, as well as coming away with a silver medal and two bronze medals. Congratulations to all of our fencers and a big thank you to the coaches for all of their support!
Sabre Round-Up
Eleven sabreurs travelled to Hatfield for the annual EYC's. Sophia, Eyren, Ariana, Charlotte, Emilie, Etienne, Matthew, Ethan, Aaron, Bijan and Arthur all represented the Leon Paul Academy at the event. The group came away with two GOLD and two BRONZE medals!
In the U11 Men's, Matthew Yeremeyev had a fantastic day, winning the gold medal. He won all five of his poule fights, earning him first seed. In the DE's, he had a bye to the L16, after which he defeated Sebastian Milner and Adrian Yip in dominant fashion to make the semi-finals. Here he faced teammate Aaron, winning the match 10-6. He defeated Michael Duff in the final to take the title. Aaron Zhang won bronze. He went 5V1D in the poules. Aaron defeated Aarav Jivraj and Ellis Nandor to make the semi-finals, where he lost against teammate Matthew.
In the U13 Women's, Sophia Chiesa won bronze. Sophia went 4V1D in the poules. Following a bye through the L32, Sophia defeated Rayen Echeverria. In the L8, she faced teammate, Eyren, who she defeated 10-8 to make the medal rounds. Sophia lost against Isabel Wong, taking home bronze. Eyren Sibelius went 4V0D in the the poules, earning her second seed for the DEs. Eyren had a bye through the L32 and defeated Silvia Abay to make the L8. She then lost against teammate Sophia.
In the U13 Men's Sabre, Arthur Chen went 4V1D. He defeated Lucas Li and Michael Olejniczak to make the L8. Here, Arthur lost to Edward Fisher.
In the U15 Men's Sabre, Etienne Sibelius won a brilliant gold medal! He went 4V1D in the poules. He defeated Oliver Nobes, Ashwyn Lyseyko and Lachlan Bennet to make the semi-finals. He then defeated first seed, George Lucas, and Henry Learner to win the gold medal!
Congratulations to Etienne and Matthew for their gold medals and to Sophia and Aaron for their bronze medals! A big thank you to coaches Can, Noah and James who supported all the fencers over the weekend!

Foil Round-Up
We had ten Salle Paul foilists compete over the weekend. Edmund, Nathaniel, Persephone, Felix, Quince, Harry, Benjamin, Oskar, Tudor and Eliana were among the fencers vying for the England Championship titles. Harry came away with a fantastic victory in the U15 Men's Foil.
In the U15 Men's Foil, Harry Roberts won gold! Harry went 4V1D in the poules. Following a bye in the L64, he defeated Shoaib Farooq, Ben Deans and Edward Mead (medical withdrawal) to make the semi-finals. He then overcame opponent, Ron Law, to make the final, where he defeated Jagroop Shergill 15-13 to take the title. Benjamin Luis went all up in the his poule, winning six fights. Seeded third, Benjamin had a bye, before losing against Rocco Drew in the L32. Oskar Picton Tully went 4V1D. He defeated Nate Harjabrata, Michael Malasenkovs and Rocco Drew. He lost against Nathaniel Goff in the L8. Tudor Prutica also went 4V1D. Tudor defeated Frederick Smith and Rufus Southgate, before losing against Edward Mead in the L16.
Eliana Gilbert-Heitler fenced in the U15 Women's event. Eliana went 4V2D in the poules. Following a bye, she defeated Thea Sandfield and Hila Ben-Ari. She lost against Gloriosa Sung in the L8.

Epee Round-Up
Thirteen of our epeeists travelled to compete in Hatfield. Alfred, Virain, Miles, Kaeto, Cyrus, Mark, Elliot, Han, Xanthe, Levi, Jonathan, Zehen and Zina represented Salle Paul. Cyrus was the runner up in the U13 event!
In the U11 Men's event, Alfredo Luis-Gomes went 4V1D in the poules. Seeded fifth, Alfredo defeated William Zhang and Lester Zheng. He then lost to Daemyn Tang in the L8. Miles Law went 2V3D, giving him eighth seed. He defeated Thomas Lee and Lucas Adamescu, before losing to Tommy Yakovlev in the L8.
In the U13 Men's event, Cyrus Lee came away with a silver medal! He went a perfect 6V0D in the poules, earning him first seed. He had a bye, then defeated club mate, Han Loh, before facing Louis-Antoine Derossis and Max Dexter to make the medal rounds. In the semi-final, he overcame Carson Chan 10-6, before losing against Leonardo Varkey 10-8 in the final.
In the U13 Women's, Xanthe Trim went 5V1D. She had a bye through the L64, before defeating Pascale Strouthidis and Macy Roper. In the L8, she lost against Olivia Cerdan by one point.
In the U15 Men's poules, Jonathan Law and Zehen Suresh both went 5V1D. This earned them sixth and seventh seed respectively. Jonathan had a bye, then defeated Carlo Chiappini and Oskar Van Heerden. He lost in the L8 against Jack Beckley. Zehen had a bye, before defeating Oliver Smith and Lucas Farlam. He lost in the L8 against Bintong Wang.
