British Open & U14 Championships
Our fencers had a very successful weekend at the British Open and U14 Championships in Sheffield. There were a number of great performances, and six fencers came away with medals.
Epee Round-Up
In Senior Women's Epee, Eleanor Taylor won the silver medal. She went 4V1D in the poules. She defeated Holly Parker, Daria Yousofian-Kenari, Anna Zaitseva and Bertille Hurel to make the semi-finals. She then defeated Jessica Rumble to proceed to the finals where she would face Lydia Stanier. Eleanor lost, taking home silver! Georgina Usher won a bronze medal. She went all up in the first round, meaning she was fourth seed going into the DEs. She defeated club mate, Anqi Sun, in the L64. She then defeated Daisy Hassell, Danielle Lawson and Alexandra Powell to make the semi-finals. Here, she lost 15-14 against the eventual winner, Lydia Stanier. Bertille Hurel won all of her first round matches. Bertille defeated Haleena Callaghan, Grace O'Neill and Sofia Gerhardt to make the L8. She lost here against club mate Eleanor Taylor. Rachael Lever went 5V1D in the first round. She defeated Emma Holding, and Katherine Townsend before putting away Kat Smith-Taylor to make the L8. Rachael lost here against Jessica Rumble.
In Senior Men's Epee, Florin Mirica won the bronze medal! He went 5V1D in the poules. He had a bye, then defeated Freddie Barlow, Hugo Smith, Gregory Allen and Philip Marsh to make the medal rounds. He lost in the semi-finals to Ben Andrews. Tristan Lumineau went 3V2D in the poules. He defeated Timur Hursever, David Mina, and Oliver Walmsley. He lost in the L16 against Erica Lauga, 15-14.
Cyrus Lee was the runner up in the U14 Men's Epee event! He went all up in the first round. Following a bye through the L32, Cyrus defeated Ryan Farzaneh, Joshua Spolton and James Fairholme. He lost in the final to Leo Varkey.
Xanthe Trim won the bronze medal in the U14 Women's Epee. Xanthe went 4V1D in the poules. She had a bye through the L32. She then defeated Levi Howden and Macy Roper to make the semi-finals. She lost against Matilda Careless by one point to take home bronze. Kaeto Ngoka went 2V4D. Following a bye, she beat Alisa Artemova. She lost by one point against Alma-Constance Denis-Smith. Levi Howden went 2V4D. She had a bye and then lost to clubmate, Xanthe, 12-10.

Sabre Round-Up
In the U14 Men's Sabre, Bijan Muganwa won the silver medal. He went all up in the first round. Seeded second, he had bye then defeated Elias Jones, William Thomas and Jamie Mok to make the finals. He lost against Jayden Woo 12-6 to take home silver. Arthur Chen went 3V3D in the poules. Following a bye, Arthur lost to club mate, Matthew, 12-9. Matthew Yeremeyev went 4V2D in the poules. He also had a bye, then defeated Arthur to make the L8. He lost here against Jamie Mok.
Sophia Chiesa fenced in the U14 Women's Sabre. She went 4V3D in the poules. Sophia defeated Amber Mustapha, before losing against Carolina Kabelis in the L8.

Foil Round-Up
We had twelve Salle Paul foilists competing across both the Senior, U14 and GB Cup.
In the Senior Men's Foil, Oliver Strange went 5V1D. Oliver defeated Mike McKay in the L64, before losing to Christopher Mollard in the next round. Yaqub Wagdi went 5V1D in the poules. He then lost to Christopher Mollard in the L64. Ashley Crees went 4V2D and then defeated Sasha Georget-Roukline. He lost in the next round to Matthew Abrahams. Harry Roberts went 2V4D. He lost to David Williams in the first round. Benjamin Luis went 1V5D and Tudor Prutica went 0V5D in the poules. Neither of them made the cut, but they continued in the Plate competition. Tudor defeated Monty Tucknott in the L32. His opponent failed to appear in the L16, and in the L8 he lost to Jon Pritchett. Benjamin defeated Adrian Kmiotek before losing to Jacob Forey-Miller.
Ioan Cimpean fenced in the GB Cup Men's Foil. He went 2V4D in the first round. He lost to Nathan Mooney in the L16.
In the Senior Women's Foil, Eleanor Knox went 3V3D. She had a bye through the L64, then defeated Holly Thompson. She lost in the L16 against Martha Conchie. Eliana Gilbert-Heitler went 2V3D in the poules. She lost against Pako Elseehy in the first round. Amelia Ward went 2V3D. Amelia then lost to Ella-marie Rudman Bromley.
Felix Berndorfer fenced in the U14 Men's Foil competition. He won all five of his poule matches. Seeded fourth, he had a bye through the L64. He then defeated Nathaniel Cheung, before losing to Michael Malasenkovs.
