August Round-Up

LPJS International Foil

In the U10 Men's Foil, Yousif Wagdi won the gold medal! He went 5V1D in the poules, earning him second seed and a bye through the L32. On his path to victory, he defeated teammate, William Maiden, Sugawara, Wu and Xia. William Maiden went 1V4D in the poules. He defeated Chan before losing to Wagdi.  

In the U14 Men's Foil, Felix Berndorfer made the top 8. He won four and lost one in the poules. After a bye, he defeated Wan, before losing to O'Donnell.

 Jessica Beechey won the U17 Women's Foil. She went 5V1D in the poules. After a bye, she beat Bankole and Hopkinson to take home gold! 

Congratulations to all the fencers who competed and especially to Yousif and Jessica for their gold medals!

LPJS International Sabre

In the U10 Women's Sabre, Charlotte Geater won the silver medal. She went 3V3D in the poules. Charlotte had a bye, then defeated Mok and Giddy to make the final. In the final, she lost against Wang. Emilie Chen took home bronze! She went 3V2D, which was enough to earn a bye to the L16. She then defeated Stancliffe before losing to the eventual winner, Wang. 

In the U12 Men's Sabre, Matthew Yeremeyev reached the final. Matthew had a bye, then beat Yakob, and Slowiakowski to make the final. Here he lost to Bennett to take home silver.  Arthur Chen won bronze.  As first seed, Arthur had a bye. He then defeated Kao, but lost to Bennett in the semi-final match.

Matthew also fenced an age-group above in the U14 Men's Sabre, where he won bronze! He went 3V3D in the poules. In the DEs, Matthew defeated Robinson and higher seed, Mok, before losing to Lyseyko in the L4. 

Congratulations to Charlotte, Emilie, Matthew and Arthur for their medals and thank you to the coaches who supported them.

LPJS International Epee

In the U10 Women's, Salma Wagdi won the silver medal! She went 5V0D in the poules, earning her first seed. Following a bye, she defeated Chan and Lam to take home gold. 

In the U12 Men's event, Miles Law placed second. He only lost one match in the poules, going 3V1D. After a bye to the semi-finals, Miles defeated Wong, before losing in a close final to Chen. Virain Babbar went 0V4D in the poules. He then lost to Wong in the L8. 

Xanthe Trim won the U14 Women's event! Across two poules Xanthe went 6V1D. Going into the DEs she was first seed. After a bye, she defeated Thatcher in the L8 and Stuart to make the finals. Here she won in a comfortable match against Cheng to take home gold.   

Congratulations to all our fencers and especially Salma, Miles and Xanthe for their medals! A big thank you to Sam and Roman for supporting the fencers.

Leon Paul Summer Open

Luca Pellegrinello won the silver medal! He went 3V1D in a short poule. Following a bye through the L64, Luca faced a string of teammates to make the semi-finals. He defeated Kola in the L32, Ayman in the L16 and Florin in the L8 in a close match. He then beat Finn Russel, but lost against Antoine Belot in the final. 
 Hugh Kernohan won a bronze medal! He won three and lost two in the poules. After a bye, he defeated Huw Richards, Gotfridas Krujalskis and David McKay to make the L4. He lost here to eventual winner, Antoine Belot. Elijah Palmer went 1V4D and lost against James Parr in the L64. Florin Mirica won all of his first round fights, going 5V0D. Seeded fourth, he had a bye then defeated Michael Robinson and Paul Gregory, before losing to Luca in the L8.

Kseniya Kushtan won gold in the women's event! She had seven victories and zero defeats in the poules. As first seed, Kseniya defeated Dhruvi Kerai, Katherine Townsend and Chloe Johnson to make the finals. Here, she defeated teammate Mahee to take home gold. Mahee Merica took silver! She went 3V4D in the poules. Mahee defeated Tyler Rae Glynn and teammate Emma to make the semi finals. She then beat Zoya before losing in the finals to Kseniya. Zoya Suresh won bronze. She started with a 5V2D record in the poules. She defeated Lily-May Lancaster Evans in the L16, and May Debbinney-Wright to make the medal rounds. She lost here against Merica.
