Salle Paul Fencer wins Veterans World Championships
Veterans World Championships
The individual events at the veterans world championships have come to an end.
Four fencers from Salle Paul were selected to attend the Veteran World Championships, all representing Great Britain.
Hugh Kernohan and Philip Jordan fenced in the vets-60 epee event. Hugh won four and lost two in poules, while Philip went two and four. Philip won his first match against Marco di Loreto di Paolantonio of Spain, then lost in the 32 against Antoine Chartier of France. Hugh wonder Junji Yamada of Japan and Paul van den Berg of the Netherlands, before being eliminated in the 16 by Gerhard Birkenmaier of Germany.
On the same day as Hugh and Philip, Graham Paul fenced in the vets-70 men's epee event. Graham won one of his five poule matches, and then lost his first tableau match against Charles Schneider of the USA.
Graham also fenced in the Vets-70 men's foil event. He won one of his poule matches, then lost his first match in the tableau to Gyorgy Lipton of Hungary.
On the same day as the men's foil, Georgina fenced in the vet-50 women's epee event. She won all six of her poule matches, and had a bye through the 64. She then proceeded to defeat Ida Choy of Hong Kong, Aracelli Bugallo of Spain, and Carolin Markheini of Germany to make the semi-finals. She won her semi against Abigail Nutt of Australia with a score of 10-3, then won the finals against Annica de Groote of Sweden to claim the World Champion title.

Budapest Cadet EFC
The Budapest Cadet Epee EFC competition took place over the weekend, with over 500 fencers across men's and women's competitions. Five Salle Paul fencers were selected to represent Great Britain at the competition.
Jack Beckley won two of four poule fights. He made the cut to the tableau, but lost his 256 match to Bence Farkas of Hungary. Casey won all five of his poule matches. He received a bye through the 256, then won over Panas of Romania in the 128. He was then eliminated by Krochmalski of Poland the following round.
Tristan won four and lost two poule matches. He won successive matches against Toby Moore of GBR, Tamas Vecsey of Hungary, Bartosz Kuznik of Poland, Leon Fu, Daniel Chirashnya, and Elijah all of the USA to the make the semi finals. He lost the semi-final match against Doruk Erolcevik by one point, 12-13.
Emma won five poule matches and lost one. She had a bye through the 256, then won her match against Zavitkovska of the Czech Republic, before being eliminated by Leheczky of Hungary.

British U23 Epee Championships
Seven Salle Paul epeeists contested the title of British U23 Champion at the centre over the weekend.
Juliet Lumineau and Rachael Lever both went three and two in poules, while Kaya won all of her six poule fights. Rachael and Juliet both won their 32 matches against Megan Upton and Crinan Potter respectively. They were both eliminated the following round, Juliet by Louise Sadler and Rachael by Amelie Russell.
Kaya had a bye through the 32, then won against Abagael Black, Amelia Millward, and Erin Pedler to reach the finals which she narrowly lost, 13-15.
Will Ferguson won one of five poule matches. He won his match in the 64 against James Hinwood, then was eliminated by Isaac McKerr. Ed Scott-Payne won five and lost one in poules. He had a bye through the 64, then beat Benedict Graham, before being eliminated by Rudi Bruin-Yard.
James Gowen also went five and one. After his bye, he defeated William Paice but was then beaten by Louis Taiwo-Williams in the 16.
Aurelio Calipa won all five of his poule matches. He had a bye through the 64, then beat Edoardo Crisafulli, but was eliminate by Jack Courtney the following round.
Congratulations to Kaya and her coaches not only for her silver medal but for her first senior GBR World Cup selection.

Elite Epee Junior Series
Five fencers were in Surrey on Saturday, fencing in the Elite Epee Junior Series.
Simon Mitchell went two and four in poules. He went up against Fraser Maclean in the 32, losing 9-15. Xanthe won three and lost two in poules. She won against Elisa Kaczorck and Eliana Yunusi-Parikh to reach the semi-final, where she was eliminated by Eleanor Scott.
Ayman went three and two in poules. After his bye through the 32, he eliminated Alvin Poon and Baptiste Elmiger, before losing the semi-finals against Oliver Atkinson.
Kaeto went seven and one across two rounds of poules. She received a bye through the 16, then won against Grace Patterson to reach the semi finals. She lost the semis to Isha Miller, 9-10.
Cyrus Lee won all six of his poule matches, conceding only five hits. Ranked first after poules, he received a bye, then defeated Elliot Parr, Ludwig Warner, Winston Fung, and Leo Varkey to claim first place.
Congratulations to Xanthe, Ayman, and Kaeto for their bronze medals and congratulations to Cyrus for his gold medal.

Hitchin Autumn Event
Shiv Vohra attended the competition organised by Hitchin Fencing Club. He won two and lost two matches in the U12 & U10 mixed poules. In the U10 tableau, he won his semi final against Alice Harvey, then won the final against Tristan Pettorelli-George to claim first place.

Manchester Cadet EFC
The first cadet foil EFC event of the year took place in Manchester over the weekend.
Alex Kronabetter won one of his five poule matches. He then was eliminated in the 128 by Luao Yang of the USA. Oskar won two of six poule matches, then lost his match in the 128 against Akhil Lewis of the USA. Tudor won two and lost three in poules, then went out to Lukas Tsao in the 128.
Aiden went three and three in poules. He drew Myles Moriarty-Smith of Ireland in the 128 and lost. Ashley won five and lost one in poules. He lost his 128 match against Aleksander Bienkowski of Poland.
Yaqub won four and lost two poule matches. He won his first match against Alexander James of Great Britain in the 128, before being eliminated by Nickolas Rusadze in the 64.
Jessica went two and four in poules, and went out to Liene Abele of Latvia in the 128.
Four of the men's foilists competed in team events, spread across three different Great Britain teams. Aiden Robinson's team was eliminated in the 32 by team Qatar. As part of Great Britain 5, Tudor won against Sweden 2 to make the top 16, where a loss to USA 3 had them fencer for places 9-16. Ashley and Yaqub were both part of Great Britain 2. They won against Sweden then lost to USA 4, leaving them to fence for places 5 to 8.

Elite Epee Men’s Series
Will Sturgeon and Luca Pellegrinello competed in the fifth men's Elite Epee event of the year.
Luca won three and lost three in poules; Will won five and lost one. In the tableau, Luca won his first match against Etienne de Burgh before being eliminated by eventual winner Paul Sanchez-Lethem in the 16. Will won against Kelvin Ng iin the 32, then lost to Antoine Belot in the following round.
