Guildford European Veterans Circuit
Eleven of our Veteran fencers competed in the European Fencing League and Veteran World Championships qualifying event last weekend.
Early on Saturday morning Philip Jordan, Pete Eames, and Simon Brock competed in Men's Epee Cat 3. Simon was disappointed to lose a 10/9 match in the L64. Pete was knocked out in the L32. Philip lost in the L16 to current European League leader Krzeminski from Poland.
Meanwhile Georgina Usher was competing Women's Epee Cat 2. She suffered a frustrating 9/8 loss in the L8 to the eventual winner, Vandewalle of Belgium.
Later in the day John Prime, Simon Pink, and Harris Makatsoris competed in the ME Cat 2. Harris lost his match in the L64. Simon Pink was eliminated by Girin of France in the L32. John Prime was eliminated in the L16, also by Girin.
Graham Paul started a busy weekend for him by competing in the ME Cat 4, winning his L16 fight 10/4 before losing 10/8 in the semi-final to Brooks of GBR.
Mariette Mason fought in a WE combined Cat 3 & 4 pool. A good win in the L16 led to a close 10/8 defeat in the L8 to Morris from GBR.
On Sunday Graham Paul competed in a combined Men's Sabre Cat 3 & 4 pool. His first DE fight was a good match but loss 10/6 to eventual winner Carl Morris of GBR.
In the afternoon Graham Paul fenced in his third competition of the weekend, Men's Foil Cat 4, where he was joined by Steve Fox. Steve's run was ended with a narrow 10/8 loss in the semi-final to Pincemaille of France. Graham fought his way to the final, where he defeated Pincemaille 10/2 to win Salle Paul's first gold medal at the tournament.
Congratulations to Philip Jordan, Georgina Usher, Mariette Mason, Steve Fox and Graham Paul who are all in the top 4 of the GBR rankings. If they keep their places, they will qualify for the 2023 Veteran World Championships in Florida.

Solihull Cadet Epee BRC
Seven Salle Paul cadets competed in the cadet epee BRC last Saturday.
In the men's event, both Ayman and Solu won their L64 matches, but were defeated the following round. Casey Jones went further, losing to George Hills in the L16.
Zina Suresh fenced hard, but was eliminated in her L32 by Jessica Barnor. Emma Mitzvah, ranked 2nd after poules, was defeated in the L8. Zoya Suresh, ranked 1st after poules, never let any opponent score more than 11 points against her, and took first place.
Congratulations to Zoya for her gold medal.

Cambridge Winter Open
Philip Jordan, Simon Pink, and Harris Makatsoris travelled up to Cambridge last weekend, to compete in Cambridge's annual winter open. They were joined there by Rachael Lever, who was competing in the women's foil.
Congratulations to Rachael on her third place finish.

Coupe Mondiale Cabriès
Four Salle Paul fencers qualified for the Udine junior World Cup: Olga Kalkutina, Hal Jones, Florin Mirica, and Oliver Strange.
On Friday, Olga faced a difficult pool and failed to make the cut. Both Hal and Florin made it to the round of 128, where they were defeated by fencers from Ukraine and Italy, respectively.
On Sunday, Oliver fenced a very strong poule and received a bye through the L256, but was eliminated by an Uzbek fencer in the L128.

Manchester Cadet Foil BRC
Seven Salle Paul fencers competed in the cadet foil BRC in Manchester on Saturday 7 January.
Tudor Prutica was eliminated from the competition early, losing to Jake Morris in the L64. Aiden Robinson and George Keogh made it through to the L32, who were eliminated by Chaudhuri and Dakin respectively. Rui Zhao, Ashley Crees, and Yaqub Wagdi all made it to the L16, where their runs through the tableau were stopped by Archer, Dakin, and Evans.
Jessica Beechey fenced well through the pools and L16, but was defeated in the L8 by eventual winner Madeline Beard.
