Leon Paul International Youth Foil and Epee camps

International Youth Camps

Over the past two weeks at the Leon Paul centre, a hundred fencers aged 7 - 15 from over a dozen different countries came to take part in the annual Leon Paul International camps.

During the camp, the young athletes had a chance to fence against their international counterparts. Many of the attendees began as strangers but left as fast friends, cherishing the connections they made.

A big thank you to the coaches and piste assistants who made the camp possible and to all the fencers who attended the camp and trained hard throughout.

LPJS International Foil

The LPJS International Foil at the Leon Paul Centre saw nearly 150 fencers participating last week, including thirteen from Salle Paul.

In the under-9 boys category we had Asher, Viraj, Aidan, Jasper, Shiv, Edmund and Yousif.

During the incomplete 16, Edmund faced off against Viraj, while Shiv went up against Jasper. Edmund and Jasper won the two matches between teammates. Damon Poon of Kingston defeated Aidan, and Tokinosuke Sugawara of Minato defeated Asher. Yousif received a bye.

Moving to the round of 8, Edmund and Jasper were eliminated by Tokinosuke Sugawara and Lucas van den Bogaerde, respectively. Yousif Wagdi defeated Angelo Zhu of Vango.

In the semis and finals, Yousif faced off against Dylan Shi and Lucas van den Bogaerde, winning both matches and ultimately claiming the gold medal.

In the under 13s category, Tudor Prutica and Felix Berndorfer represented Salle Paul. Felix fenced Malasenkovs of Newham Swords, a match Malasenokovs won. Tudor faced Timothy Chu of FCL and secured the victory. He progressed to the top 16, where he was eliminated by the eventual winner Dominik Juras.

Persephone Dawson was the sole representative from Salle Paul in the under-11 girls category. After the poule, she faced Kushtan of Newham Swords in the round of 16 and was defeated.

Eliana Gilbert-Heitler secured four victories from her five poule matches. She proceeded to the round of 16, where she defeated Layla Sharif of Newham Swords. Her journey concluded in the following round when she was eliminated by the eventual winner, Sophie Lenk of the Massialas Foundation.

Congratulations to Yousif for his gold medal.

Thank you to Oliver for supporting the fencers during the event.

LPJS International Epee

Six Salle Paul fencers took part in the LPJS International Epee on Saturday.

Kaeto Ngoka and Clara Purgass were the only under-9 girl epeeists competing. They fenced two rounds of poules with the boys, before fencing off for the gold medal. Kaeto won six out of her eight poule matches, while Clara won two out of six. Both showing the boys how it's done!

Kaeto won the fence-off for first place, well done to both fencers.

Xanthe Trim won five out of her six poule bouts, while Anqi won four of six. Anqi defeated Chen of King's Canterbury in the first round of DEs, before being eliminated by Panyandee-Capelli in the semi finals.

Xanthe, ranked first after poules, had a bye through the first round, and then defeated Johnston of MK Dubai to reach the finals. She was defeated in the finals 2-10, also by Panyandee-Capelli, and took home the silver medal.

In the boys event, both Solu Ngoka and Simon Mitchell won three of their five poule bouts.  Simon eliminated Wright of Knightsbridge in the last 16, then was defeated by Luciani of Fermo in the last 8. After his bye, Solu defeated Yilmaz of Alliance Fencing, then Luciani in the semi finals, and finally emerged victorious over Seldon of Samadhi Fencing Club in the finals.

Congratulations to Anqi for her bronze medal, Clara and Xanthe for their silver medals, and Kaeto and Solu for their gold medals.

Thank you to Sam, Roman, and Oana for their coaching throughout the day.
