Leon Paul Junior Foil BRC

Salle Paul had two fencers enter the junior foil BRC this weekend. 

In the men's competiton, Charles Haines went out in the L32 to former Salle Paul member Alexander Culkin. 

On the women's side, new member Eleanor Knox was seeded seventh after the two rounds of poules, but pulled through matches agains higher seeded fencers to reach the finals. She was defeated in the finals by Katie Castillo-Bernaus, 10-15.

Congratulations to Eleanor for her silver medal.

International Youth Cup Epee

On the advice of his coach Sam, Solu Ngoka competed in the 6th International Youth Cup Epee in Sint Martens-Latem, Belgium. 

He won his five poule matches to be seeded first in the tableau. He then proceeded to defeat Belgian fencers Priem, Hebette, Defoy, and Pinsart to reach the finals. Sold proceeded to win the gold medal match 15-10 against Lilo Pinsart, also of Belgium.

Congratulations to Solu for his first international gold medal.

Surrey Youth Series

Winston Fung was eligible to fence in the Surrey Youth competition on Sunday. He won four and lost three matches across two rounds of poules, and then rallied in the tableau to win the U12 boy's epee competition.

Coupe du Danube

Four Salle Paul cadets qualified for the Bratislava EFC across foil and epee.

In the epee, Casey Jones won two and lost four in poules, and didn't make the cut. Amani Campbell-Okolo won five matches and lost one. He was defeated in the L256 by Elgezzery of Egypt. Tristan Luminau won all his poule matches and was ranked 17th in the tableau, where he progressed to the L64 before being defeated by Strobia of Italy.

Zoya won two and lost three matches in her poule. She was promoted to the tableau, where she was defeated by Drogon of Romania in the L256.

In the foil event, Rui Zhao won four and lost two matches in poules; Ashley Crees won three and lost two. Ashley defeated Olinskyi of Ukraine in the L256, but was eliminated by Rubin of Hungary in the following round. Rui had a bye through the L256, but was defeated in the L128 by Efraty of Israel.

Manchester Cadet Foil BRC


Seven Salle Paul fencers competed in the cadet foil BRC in Manchester on Saturday 7 January.

Tudor Prutica was eliminated from the competition early, losing to Jake Morris in the L64. Aiden Robinson and George Keogh made it through to the L32, who were eliminated by Chaudhuri and Dakin respectively. Rui Zhao, Ashley Crees, and Yaqub Wagdi all made it to the L16, where their runs through the tableau were stopped by Archer, Dakin, and Evans.

Jessica Beechey fenced well through the pools and L16, but was defeated in the L8 by eventual winner Madeline Beard.
