Medal tally at LPJS Newham
Posted on November 19, 2017
Lots of lovely medals at the LPJS Newham at the weekend of 18th/19th November 2017: well done to Oliver Strange (U15 Bronze); Amelia Middleton (U15 Bronze); Rui Zhao (U11 Silver); and Ashley Crees (U9 Bronze). And thanks to Tony Conyard for his coaching support throughout the two days of the competition and for his match reports below. (Rui pictured).
In the Boys U11, Rui Zhao’s SILVER was a great result, Rui fenced with maturity and composure – very well done. This was a large age group and a tough event – Faraday Walsh was 32nd and Leroy Kronabetter 36nd. In the Girls U13, Zing Zhao was 6th and Ruby Roberts 22nd.
The format for the U9 age group was two rounds of poules only. Ashley Crees and Felix Bidwell, each had nine fights: Felix won seven out of nine and finished a very creditable sixth; Ashley won all his fights and, after adjustments for the format, was ranked third and received the BRONZE medal, Excellent fencing by both of them, Well done.
In the Girls U11, Nathalie Culkin was 5th and in U13 Boys Alexander Culkin and Shalang Kolas both made the last 32. Amelia Middleton fenced well in both of her U15 poule rounds, having to fence a very strong and experienced GBR International from Newham Swords twice in the poules. Amelia fought hard and, with determination and patience, went on to win a well-deserved BRONZE medal.
